Shapes and Fair Shares!

Hello Everyone! We had a great 4 day week last week. Isn't it crazy how even though we sometimes have short weeks, we still try to fit 5 days worth of learning in? It really makes for a full few days!!!  We worked hard on all our New Year stuff... Setting new goals for ourselves, learning about resolutions, reorganizing our school setting, etc.   A great little resolution book to read!! We worked on solid figures in math! eating spheres!! and cones! Such great hand to head to heart learning!! I put together a mini unit to help me get started. The link will be below, but all you need to pick up for success in this area are some graham crackers and some animal crackers!!  Print off the unit, and GO!! Welcome 2015 and....Opinion Writing

Hello Everyone!! Happy New year to all of you!  The end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016 have been very emotional for me.  We started off our winter break visiting my son, Jordan in Indiana. He has made his way into the hearts of the people of southwest Indiana with his amazing storytelling and reporting for the local news station. And...He just bought his first house. We are so excited for him! We loved spending time with him over Christmas.  --- On our drive back home, we kept getting texts, phone calls, and e-mails from friends about the 12 tornadoes that ravaged their way through the towns around our home in Texas.  Oh my goodness---our emotions went from bliss to absolute heartbreak. So many of our friends lost everything, including a couple of teachers from our district.  One of the elementary schools was hit and is now deemed unsafe. And sadly, 11 people lost their lives.  The past few days have been filled with helping school and church groups gath...

Giving Sweet JOY!

Hello Everyone! It is the season of giving!! One of my very favorite things to do, especially this time of year, is for the kids to create something to give to someone else.  In this day and time, we sometimes battle the "gimme's," or the "I wants." This year when the Spangler Candy company contacted me about their Holiday Craft Promotion, I knew I wanted the kids to create something including Dum Dums with a different purpose.   Many of you know that JOY is not just word that I "collect," I try to share my joy with as many people as I can reach.  It is a perfect sentiment for kids to share as well. So,combining Dum Dum lollipops, the spirit of giving, and the feeling of  JOY into a holiday card was easy!!  This holiday craft will work for any time of the year, any holiday, any special occasion!
